ABOUT
Iain Collie Architecture is a Surrey-based residential architectural practice founded by Iain Collie, bringing more than 25 years of architectural experience in the UK and Australia to each project.
I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) in 2000 and have maintained registration with the Board of Architects of Queensland since 2009. My career has taken me from Brisbane to London and Surrey, working on a wide range of residential projects including new-build homes, extensions, major refurbishments and alterations to listed and period properties.
Much of my experience has involved complex and sensitive projects within listed buildings, conservation areas and distinctive existing homes, where a considered understanding of the original architecture is fundamental to developing a successful design.
Between 2014 and 2019, I was an Associate at London-based Alan Higgs Architects, an experience that had a significant influence on my approach to residential design. I have also worked with Garnett & Partners in London and Arklab Architecture in Brisbane, gaining broad experience across design, planning, technical development and construction.
Today, I bring that experience to every project, regardless of its scale. I believe successful residential architecture comes from understanding both the building and the people who will live within it — creating homes that are thoughtful, characterful, practical and enjoyable to inhabit.

Every project begins with listening. My approach is collaborative and personal, taking time to understand the aspirations of each client, the opportunities presented by the existing building and the particular qualities of its setting.
Through exploration, those initial ideas develop into a clear architectural response. Proportion, natural light, materials, views and the relationship between spaces are considered alongside the practical requirements of everyday life.
The aim is to create architecture that feels considered and individual — enhancing the character of a property while creating a beautiful and comfortable place to live.
